Read MoreIbely’s older sister was in SRLA and her experiences influenced Ibely to join once she got in high school. Although she doubted her ability to run 26.2 miles, her leaders, teammates, friends and family supported her to “fight till the end.” Ibely just graduated with honors from John C. Fremont High School and will study Nursing at CSU Bakersfield in the fall.

Read MoreJose found out about SRLA through his siblings who had participated previously. Jose joined because he wanted to improve his physical health and wanted a distraction from his studies. Being in SRLA helped him develop connections and a strong mentality. Jose became very close with the people in his team and a sense of community was built. This community encouraged him to finish four LA Marathons! Jose is a SRLA scholarship recipient and will be attending USC to major in Environmental Studies.
Read MoreAmy had some doubts about her running abilities when she first joined SRLA. The comparison she made with her peers didn’t allow her to have fun. However, thanks to the help of her teammates and their positive encouragement, she didn’t quit. Amy changed her mindset and became happier and more confident. She stopped overthinking and comparing herself to others which allowed her to successfully run the LA Marathon. Amy is an SRLA scholarship recipient and will attend UC Santa Cruz in the fall and hopes to major in Psychology.

Being in SRLA helped Eliu love himself and he began to find confidence in himself which was later on reflected in his grades. Eliu’s dad inspires him to run and is looking forward to participating in more races in the future alongside his father. Eliu will be attending Cal State LA this upcoming fall!
Read MoreDaisy is a graduating senior from Bell High School and an SRLA scholarship recipient. Daisy was encouraged to join SRLA by her teammates and coaches. Although at first she dreaded waking up at 7am every Saturday for the team runs, she later found it pleasing because it helped her become more productive and she found herself in a happier mood throughout the day. Daisy will be attending UC Irvine this fall and will major in Criminology.
