Hispanic Heritage Month: How Their Heritage Inspires Runners

This Hispanic Heritage Month we ask SRLA runners how their family and their heritage has impacted their journey to the marathon. Below are the reflections from SRLA runners on how their heritage has inspired them to keep running!

“I come from a family of hardworking people who I respect a lot. I believe my heritage greatly impacted my running journey by making me a more dedicated person. My family supports me in my running journey and that has helped me with completing the LA marathon three times.” - Jillian, Diego Rivera Learning Complex

“There are so many great Hispanic runners… and they've impacted my running journey by inspiring me to train my hardest. Running with SRLA is amazing because we are all working hard towards completing our milestones and that process is beautiful. There are many Hispanics in SRLA and seeing other people like me achieving these big milestones makes me happy and it motivates me to put it in the work to become a better runner and individual.” - David, Foshay Learning Center

When I see other runners who look like me it inspires me to keep going.
