Senior Stories: Daisy, Having an Active Lifestyle
Daisy is a graduating senior from Bell High School and an SRLA scholarship recipient. Daisy was encouraged to join SRLA by her teammates and coaches. Although at first she dreaded waking up at 7am every Saturday for the team runs, she later found it pleasing because it helped her become more productive and she found herself in a happier mood throughout the day. Daisy will be attending UC Irvine this fall and will major in Criminology.
Participating in SRLA changed my lifestyle in a positive way. After my teammates and coach encouraged me to join, I decided to listen to them and sooner than I thought, I was waking up at 7:00 a.m. every Saturday to join my team on long distance runs. Although some of my teammates dreaded it, I found it quite pleasing because it made me more productive as a person and I found myself in a happier mood, due to the adrenaline I got when running. In addition to SRLA making my lifestyle healthier, it allowed me to become closer to my teammates and my coach Mr. Sanchez. When we stopped to catch our breaths during long runs, he would motivate us to pick a goal point, which was where we would begin to run again. If it wasn’t for Coach Sanchez’s positive attitude towards us I’m sure my teammates and I would have dreaded the LA Marathon.
However, with the adequate training and meal preps I took in, the LA Marathon was a blast and I am proud to call myself a marathoner! Furthermore, SRLA also helped my family become healthier. I encouraged them to come on runs with me on Sundays when they were available and they agreed. Now, instead of living a sedentary lifestyle, they live an active lifestyle and I have to say that I’m super proud of how far they’ve come.
Rapid Fire!
My favorite post workout snack is…
A Nature Valley granola bar.
Something I can’t run without is…
My water bottle.
Best part of every race is…
The ending because I feel accomplished of how much I’m capable of running, while feeling free.
My favorite LA Marathon mile is…
The last one because so many people were cheering us on while we were in pain, but it reminded me to keep going.
Someone/something that inspires me to run…
Is my health, because I remind myself that running is a way to keep myself healthy.
