Senior Stories: Allison, the Road to Success
Allison is a SRLA Scholarship recipient. She has been with SRLA for 5 years, and has completed 4 marathons. She will attend UC Irvine in the Fall!
One of the toughest things I’ve ever accomplished, I would say would be my first marathon. I had never ran that far in my life and I thought it crazy, back when I joined, that I would be running that far. I’ve had many issues with my breathing and heart that were waived away after my checkups, but the thought that I would not be able to breathe anymore still wandered in the back of my head. However, that day, I was hopeful and knew I was going to make it to the other side.
As I ran, I kept thinking of my parents. I wanted to impress them, but I realized that they were not going to be waiting for me. They were not going to come. The feeling of disappointment washed over me and I began to feel like I was not going to make it. But that little voice inside me kept pushing me to continue and soon I could not feel my body; I was running on air.
The minute I reached the finish line, a feeling of success shook my body to life and the joy of accomplishment and relief that I was not only able to battle my physical self but my mental one as well, was one of the greatest unforgettable feelings SRLA gave me.
