Jasmine, Developing Confidence
Meet Jasmine!
Jasmine recently graduated from Fulton College Prep, and she will be attending UCLA in the fall. She has been a member of SRLA for four years, and she is a recipient of the SRLA Scholarship. Here is what Jasmine had to say as she reflected on her experience with SRLA.
“My coaches are people that I trust. They provide educated advice for my future.”
Because of SRLA, as well as its strong, educated leaders that I have had the pleasure to train with, I have become a more diligent student and person. For three out of the four years in SRLA, I have been coached by former alumni from my high school who have already graduated from college with bachelors degrees. Some have even continued to pursue grad school. Being surrounded by individuals who are passionate about their education and professional life, but still dedicate their time to train high school students for the LA Marathon, inspires me. Their constant care and bondage for our team has led me also want to become an SRLA leader in the future.
Similarly, my own experience in the LA Marathon for four years has had a strong influence in the diligence and discipline I have for my education. This ultimately led me to pursue higher education. Although my family and community has had a reputation for low education, being able to challenge myself has only allowed me to prove that I am able to overcome the impossible.
