Senior Stories: Aline, Dedication is Key

Meet Aline!

Aline graduated from Middle College High, and she is a recipient of the SRLA Scholarship. Read on to learn more about her experience with SRLA.

My coach made us feel like a family.

Throughout the program, I felt that I was always supported by my coach and by my teammates. It was always fun during practices. We were able to push one another to become better runners and better people. During the races, I always felt supported by the leaders, other runners, and the people cheering us on. If I were ever walking, there were people who would encourage me to keep going and to not give up. I was able to channel that energy into my studies. Even when I wasn’t doing my best, I was able to get back up.

The program also taught me to manage my time. I had to practice after school and then finish homework that was due the next day. Additionally, SRLA helped me push myself to take challenging classes like AP English or US History. It helped me tackle things that were bigger than I ever imagined and was able to complete them. I was even confident enough to apply for nursing school and not give up even if I wasn’t accepted. Overall, this program allowed me to become a better person physically and mentally, choosing to chase my goals and complete them.

SRLA taught me that both perseverance and dedication are needed to pursue your goals.
