Season Update: SRLA Groups Get Ready for the 5K
The following is a collection of posts and photos from our Marathon Leaders as they kicked off the season and began preparing for the LADF 5K.
School is back in session and SRLA groups are coming together to get ready for a great season. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation 5K is less than a week away and all across LA SRLA students are getting ready to run their first race. Here is a quick look at how they are doing it…
Garfield High School JROTC began their weekend long runs in preparation for the LADF 5K. They rose with the sun for a run by East LA CC.
Blair HS SRLA is building up leg strength to get ready for the (hilly!) course at Dodgers Stadium with hill repeats and wall sits.
Polytechnic High School has a big group of runners who have been practicing after school since August. Marathon Leader, Luis, has been putting together fun workouts and ice breaker activities.
Griffith Middle School also has a pretty big group of runners this year. On top of of going for runs Griffith MS students are preparing for the LADF 5K by collecting bottles and cans for the SRLA Cares: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle project.
Mt. Gleason High School SRLA runners have also kicked off the season with weekend long runs.
South Gate Complex SRLA put in a 3 mile long run to get ready for the 5K. They also made some time to get in partner stretches - a great way to keep their muscles healthy and make friends!
Carson High School SRLA harnessed the power of WHY to complete their Saturday long run. Students wrote down down their reason for participating in SRLA and then put it into a box before their work out.
It’s an exciting time for students and leaders alike as they prepare for the journey to 26.2. Stay tuned for updates all season long!
