Meet Our New Board Member, Adriana!

Meet Adriana! Adriana is an SRLA Alumna and one of the newest members of our board. She ran for Leuzinger High School in 2003 and 2004 and as she has advanced in her life and career has taken opportunities to give back to SRLA. Get to know Adriana in this week’s blog.

Do you have a favorite SRLA memory?

My favorite memory was running with the 2004 marathon, I had a knee injury and so did my friend, Dilcia. Dilcia, Bethzy and I stuck together the whole marathon and we crossed the finish line together. We were in pain, exhausted but we had each other.

Do you remember any specific challenges training as a student?

I think the biggest challenge for me was comprehending the toll that a marathon takes on your body and the required effort of doing the train runs but also fueling your body during those runs. I would do most of the runs but I wouldn't eat anything during long runs, I would get sick. I learned that my body likes only certain things when running years later.

What are you doing now?

I work for FOX and I have continued running on and off after high school.

What lessons did you learn in SRLA that you still use today, if any?

I learned the importance of discipline and that if you work hard, you can accomplish things you never even though about. I had zero idea what a marathon was when I decided to join SRLA 🙃

Do you have any advice for current SRLA students, related to life and or running?

Running and life are similar, some runs are rough so is life, but tough runs and tough times don't last.

RAPID FIRE!

A few more questions - just for fun!

Do you still run?

Yes, I have completed 8 more marathons and have also started doing triathlons.

What was your favorite SRLA race?

The Friendship run.

What did you have to have with you at every race?

I don’t think I had anything specific besides my water bottle.

What SRLA gear (if any) do you still have?

My marathon shirts from SRLA.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

You may not realize what running is doing for you until you look back. You got this!
