Just Have Fun! - Jay's Marathon Reflections
On March 19th, Jay completed his second Los Angeles Marathon with Students Run LA. Jay is a 10th grader at Fairfax High School. He shared some of his favorite and most challenging moments from the marathon with SRLA.
What was your favorite part of the run?
It was talking to new people that I stuck with as a whole group. We were talking about what we're gonna do after the marathon.
What was the most challenging part of the run?
Starting from Mile 20 my legs were senseless and I just kept running. Walking to Beverly Hills HS was a pain especially in the pouring rain.
Were there any moments when a fellow member of the running community helped you during the event?
Yea! I owe a lot to my new buddy Tommy and the 4:30 pacer, Almi, who encouraged me to go faster and I did that.
How did you feel crossing the finish line?
I felt proud of my training and I felt my goal was accomplished for the year after my tears.
What advice do you have for someone who is planning to run the Los Angeles Marathon next year?
Just Have Fun! Once you run a marathon you'll always remember it and you can do anything you want!
Any other memorable moments from the marathon?
The energy at Century City was amazing! The food that people gave out at Beverly Hills was delicious! I still talk to the new people I met at the marathon. I bragged to kids and my teachers at my school the next day with all my medals.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I'll definitely sign up for SRLA next year! I'll also highly recommend this club to others at my school who'll want to run the magical 26.2 miles!
