Kayla, Lessons from Running
Kayla is a 10th grader at Hawthorne High School. This season she joined SRLA for the first time and found a new love for running. Throughout the year she learned how to push herself, believe in herself, and love herself. Kayla says this is just the beginning.

My name is Kayla and I am so honored to be in SRLA. I never considered myself an individual who liked to run, in fact, I hated running, that’s changed.
In September of 2020 my mom pushed me to join SRLA, she wanted to keep the tradition alive. My two sisters also ran with SRLA when they were in high school and my mom encouraged me to do the same. I joined and honestly it was such a journey and an experience.
I have gained so much from running with SRLA. There were times when I wanted to quit but I didn’t. With the help of my team and my family, I kept going. No matter the distance I ran that day, I kept going.
SRLA taught me so much. Not only to keep going, but to believe in yourself, to love yourself and your limits. It’s taught me to push myself. I never in my life would have thought I would be able to run more than one mile. I still can't believe it now.
I will forever remember my experience running with SRLA. I’ve become a better runner and better person. This is definitely a life accomplishment. I will keep running, it has become a new hobby of mine and it is just the start.
Thank you so much SRLA.
