Leader Spotlight: Meet Star Award Winner Officer Mendoza

Officer Mendoza won a 2018 Star Award at this year’s leader dinner! His dedication to Students Run LA and the LAPD Program is incredible. Thank you for all you do for SRLA!

Q: Where are you a SRLA leader? How many years have you been with SRLA and what brought you to us? 
A: I have been a leader with LAPD Mission for 10 years. I got involved because of my love of running.

Q: What is your day job? 
A: I am a Police Officer. 

Q: What is your favorite training tip, quote, or words of advice that you share with your students?
A: “The only time you truly fail is when you don’t try at all.”

Q: What has been your favorite SRLA event of all time?
A: My favorite event is the Holiday half marathon. 

Q: What is the best thing about SRLA in your opinion?
A: It teaches youth when you work hard, you can reach what they thought was impossible. 

Q: What’s something that people might be surprised to learn about you? 
A: I love cookies!!!! Any type, anytime!!

Q: Anything else you want to share? 
A: I want to thank all the SRLA staff for doing an amazing job. Leaders wouldn’t be able to do as much as we do without your support. You’re the true magic behind the success of SRLA.
