Scholarships Awarded

SRLA makes available to graduating seniors a limited number of $500 scholarships, payable directly to the school of enrollment, for post-high school education in two- or four-year colleges, trade schools, or fine arts programs. To qualify, students must graduate from high school in the current program year, participate in the Honda LA Marathon and pass the state CAHSEE exam. Specific requirements for eligibility do apply.

The $500 awards have helped students attend a wide variety of colleges and universities, both locally and across the nation. Many of the students who have received these grants had not considered college a possibility for themselves before they participated in Students Run LA. These scholarships, though modest, provide critically needed funds for books, tuition and other expenses, for students with limited resources.

It is with great pleasure that Students Run LA recently awarded scholarships to 99 of its graduating seniors who took part in the 2010-2011 marathon season. The achievement of completing a 26.2-mile marathon requires tenacity, perseverance, and a will to set and attain goals. Antonio, a student at King Drew Magnet High School, found that “The Marathon gave me the confidence that I needed and gave me the determination to attack other goals.” Many of the SRLA scholarship recipients who will receive their diplomas are the first in their families to both graduate from high school, and to advance their plans for a college education

These scholarships could not happen without the tremendous support and generosity of the Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation, the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Fund, The Green Foundation, Larry Rawson, the Sidney Stern Memorial Trust, the Simon-Strauss Foundation, the Sterling Foundation and the Union Bank Foundation, who specifically fund the scholarship program. It is with gratitude and appreciation that 99 students will have the opportunity to realize their dreams of going to college.
